i highly recommend reading for no other reason than to read.
as a new year's resolution, i committed myself to reading at least one book a month. it's really the only resolution i've stuck with and i'm so glad i have.
books of 2012
1. better: a surgeon's notes on performance-- atul gawande
*rather fascinating
2. hector and the search for happiness-- francois lelord
*short and entertaining, although a little dry
3. all these things shall give thee experience-- elder neal a. maxwell
*excellent. i love maxwell's style, plus the doctrine is incredible.
4. half the sky: turning oppression into opportunity for women worldwide-- nicholas d. kristof & sheryl wudunn
* heartbreaking, graphic, phenomenal, and eyeopening
5. incendiary-- chris cleave
* i loathed this book. chris cleave's other book, 'little bee', is outstanding. this one was horrific. literally gave me nightmares.
6. the lucky one-- nicholas sparks
*as my first nicholas sparks novel, i was entertained. i tried to read another nicholas sparks novel and couldn't make it past 100 pages. i've been told 'the lucky one' is his best.
7. heaven is here-- stephanie nielson
*excellent. while i disagreed with her perspective on some issues {i.e. not getting a college education by choice}, her story of triumph and heartache were inspiring. i would recommend this to anyone.
8. same kind of different as me-- ron hall & denver moore
*an amazing true story told by two men, i was hooked with the first paragraph. i recommend you pick yourself up a copy.
9. death comes to pemberly-- p.d. james
*this was exciting and entertaining to read. although written quite differently than jane austen, the story picks up 10 years after 'pride & prejudice' ends.... with a murder! a great who-done-it with quite the twist.
still on the list to read: {mostly recommendations from my momma}
1. crossing the heart of africa-- julian smith
2. say you're one of them-- uwem akpan
3. sarah's key-- tatiana de rosnay
4. the lost summer of louisa may alcott-- kelly o'connor
5. the dive from clausen's pier-- ann packer
i've also been dying to re-read:
1. the hunger games {trilogy}-- suzanne collins {oh peeta...}
2. the guernsey literary and potato peel society-- mary ann shaffer & annie barrows
3. mister pip-- lloyd jones
