are we there yet?

day 1: my favorite song

i love a lot of songs, but I adore ingrid like no other. I can listen to her constantly, monday through sunday, and each time her lyrics reach a distant memory or understanding of myself.
therefore, although I do enjoy the fray and onerepublic, taylor swift and jimmy eat world, noah & the whale and other obscure artists, ingrid is my one and only. it seems fitting, then, given my devotion and adoration to her songs, that my favorite song would come from her.
narrowing it down to ingrid was simple. quite obvious, actually. determining which of her melodious brilliance was my favorite was near impossible. i love every song i have ever heard tumble from her lips and fingers. i know nearly every line and pun and voice inflection.
so I settled on the one song that no circumstance can ever prevail me to skip when it comes round on shuffle or begins it’s simple notes on my lovely ingrid cd.

“are we there yet”
they say that home is where the heart is.
i guess i haven’t found my home.
and we keep driving round in circles,
afraid to call this place our home.
and are we there yet?
they say there’s linings made of silver,
folded inside each rainy cloud.
well we need someone to deliver our silver lining now.
and are we there yet?
and are we there yet?
and are we there yet?
home home home.
home home home.
they say you’re really not somebody
until somebody else loves you.
well I am waiting to make somebody somebody soon.
and are we there yet?
and are we there yet?
and are we there yet?
home home home.
home home home.
where you will lie on the rug
while i play with the dog.
and you won’t be too much, cause this is too much.
aause this is too much for me to hold.
this is too much for me to hold.
home home home.
and are we there yet?
and are we there yet?
home home home.
home home home.
home.
and are we there yet?
and are we there yet?
and are we there yet?
and are we there?

i love it so, perhaps, because it makes me feel complete that I am not complete. that although I am not there yet {that I haven’t arrived to where I want or need to be} it’s alright.
it soothes me, making me feel perfectly human to not want to trust or hold or be with someone. it would be “too much for me to hold”.
in its beauty, this song gives me the hope that i can arrive home one day.

Home home home.
